Our Family's Legacy in Pet Grooming

Help from Above for Groomers began as a family story that stretches back to Selmer, Tennessee in 1963. Our journey started with our father, Fred, opening his own grooming shop and advertising as an Expert Poodle Barber. He believed in doing every task for God's glory, pouring that mindset into both his work and his children. Each of us was involved in the shop, learning the ropes firsthand - whether brushing, bathing, or wrangling a cranky Afghan Hound. The shop was always a hive of teamwork, laughs, and lessons learned the practical way. Our dad's reputation for quality and hands-on care soon built a loyal client base. Friends would often tell him he could turn his business into something huge. His answer was always rooted in valuing simplicity and togetherness, preferring to keep it small and in the family. Over decades of daily grooming, we faced every kind of animal and challenge, from jumpy puppies to hefty, strong-willed dogs who could pull an arm or flip a table. As time passed, the aches set in, and the need for a smarter, safer way grew clearer. That's when we began designing equipment that puts safety and efficiency first. Today, every device we sell is built around that same family philosophy - making pet care kinder, simpler, and safer for everyone, including the animals we love.

How This Got Started

Glee Thacker and Gestle Wheeler

Master Groomer

Fred's journey from a dedicated local groomer in Selmer to an innovator in pet grooming equipment reflects deep expertise and an unwavering commitment to safety and dignity for both animals and handlers. With 63 years of experience and certification as a National Dog Groomers Master Groomer, Fred has worked through every challenge pet professionals encounter - from excitable puppies to weary backs. Early on, Fred saw that some pets and people needed more than just patience; they needed the right support. Refusing to accept unnecessary risk or discomfort, he devoted years to rethinking how grooming could work for everyone. That vision shaped our first Help from Above devices, crafted with quality American materials, careful hands, and thoughtful design. Fred's belief is simple: Reliable, ergonomic tools that keep pets safe can change the day for both groomers and the animals they care for. That vision guides everything we do today.
